A Word from the Editor (October 2017)

A Word from the Editor

So. How about that 2017, huh?

I’ll just wait for the low sobbing and gnashing of teeth to quiet down, shall I?

It hasn’t all been bad. For instance, this is the fourth really great issue from Kaleidotrope this year (if I do say so myself), and I think you’re really going to enjoy this one. It’s an interesting mix of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and sort-of-alternate-history. Sometimes even in the same story. And thanks to a collaborative story from Gareth D. Jones and company, it may be the first time since the print days of the zine that this many authors have appeared in a single issue.

My thanks, as always, to the authors and artists who make Kaleidotrope possible. At the end of the day, I’m mostly just a guy who gets to say, “Can you believe the incredible work people entrusted me to share with you?” And I feel really honored to do so.

My thanks also to all of Kaleidotrope‘s supporters. This year, I started a new Patreon, and while it’s still very much a work in progress and learning experience, I’ve been heartened by all the people who have let me know how much the zine means to them with a few dollars here and there. All of those dollars go directly back to the authors and artists, and every amount is incredibly appreciated.

As is all the support for the zine on Twitter and other social media. If you enjoy a story or poem here, please do feel free to comment, or tweet about it. I know the authors would love to see it, as would I, and you’ll be sharing work you love and want to support with others!

Finally, I will be attending World Fantasy this November. That’s after a lovely trip to Finland for Worldcon 75, where I met several–though unfortunatley not all–past Kaleidotrope contributors and readers. So if you see me there in San Antonio, please do say hi!

I don’t know what 2018 promises, beyond more great stories, poems, and art. I’m really happy I’ll be the one to share it with you.
